Batman Gotham Knight in July 2008

You probably know that the Dark Knight, a sequel to Batman Begins, will be released on July 18, 2008. But you may not know that an animated Batman film will also be released ten days before! The title of this animated movie is 'Batman: Gotham Knight'.

Batman: Gotham KnightUnfortunately Batman Gotham Knight will not be screened in your favorite theater: Warner Bros. and DC Comics have opted for a straight-to-DVD release of this new Batman movie.

Batman Gotham Knight is set in-between Batman Begins and The Dark Knight. The film is actually an anthology of six animated short films. For each film a different team of Directors and scriptwriters. Such a collaboration between different teams creates a unique Batman experience.

The film uses a Japanese anime style for the animation. This link to mangas is similar to another tie-in, The Animatrix, as both are collections of short films of Japanese origin.

Batman Gotham City is officially rated PG-13 because of its stylized violence, including some bloody scenes (Too bad though that they didn't work on a restricted version of the movie...).

Well, I will buy the DVD of Batman Gotham Knight for sure. But I would have loved to see it in theaters...
